“The cry of ‘Flower Power’ echoes through the land. We shall not wilt. Let a thousand flowers bloom.”
– Abbie Hoffman, Workshop in Nonviolence, May 1967.
The Flower Power era took place in the 1960’s to the 1970’s and originated in Berkeley California. Flowers worn in your hair or given to someone were a way of rebelling against the Vietnam war. Flowers were later on associated with the psychedelic era aka the hippie era. Artists like Bob Dylan, The Beatles and shows such as the The tonight show starring Johnny Carson and The Ed Sullivan Show made flower power a more main stream culture! Fast forward a few decades later flower power made its return into our everyday lives. Fake flowers work best because of their longevity compared to the real thing plus you can get them so easily! Depending on the look you’re going for, you can wear a single flower or multiple flowers in the shape of a crown! You can wear them with your hair up, down, side ways, ALL WAYS! They just give off such a laid back, girly and fun vibe!
To see how you can make your own flower crown and get the look above, here is the video from a real flower child: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vza3Nypx4s
